What was Jesus’ most important task

Jesus’ most important task was to come to save all His own, that is, the lambs. In the Law it says, “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” Hebrews 9:22. It means in practice that Jesus is the final sacrifice, and no sacrifice is needed after that.

Jesus ended sacrificing by becoming the sacrificial lamb for all believers. Everything was, however, foreseen already before the foundation of the world, both the beginning and the end. “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God Revelation 1:8.

Jesus is also the atoner for sins. Without Jesus having died on the cross there would also be no atonement for sins. Jesus came to free people from their sins. Jesus died and rose from the dead.

After His death God sent the Holy Spirit, so that believers could live a holy life and do those deeds that Jesus also did, such as casting out demons and healing the sick. After the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the gifts of grace began to work in the congregation and miracles began to happen and they still happen to this day.

Jesus came so that believers would receive eternal life

Without Jesus there is no salvation. Jesus came to give believers eternal life. By believing in Jesus God has promised to give eternal life. By believing in Jesus and being obedient to Him this matter is promised to believers. All of Jesus’ lambs will be saved.

He separates the lawless from those who have lived according to Christ’s law. Lawless means those who have lived in willful sin. Jesus is the atoner for sins, but a believer must not live in willful sin. God is merciful even if one lives in sin, but sins must be repented of. 1 Corinthians 6:9, Matt. 25:33,34. Here is the promise that all of Jesus’ lambs will be saved.

Jesus came to free from sin

Here it is told clearly that Jesus came to free people from their sins. By believing in Jesus one receives the gift of the Holy Spirit, which makes it possible to live without willful sin. Matthew 1:21. 1 John 3:6. But there is also an advocate, even if one commits sin, 1 John 2:1.

How then can one be freed from sins?

If you are not yet in faith, you might wonder how one can be saved from one’s sins? At the beginning one must repent. Matthew 3:2, Acts 2:38, Acts 3:19, Revelation 3:19. When you have repented, you must be baptized (immersion baptism), which is followed by the promise that you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38. In addition you must receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Acts 10:44–46.

Jesus came to show God’s love

Jesus also came to show God’s love toward His own, 1 John 4:9,10. Love is the most important commandment. Matthew 22:36,37,38,39,40. Without love there would be nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:1,2,3. All God’s children live in love. Not because they themselves loved, but because God loved first and in the Holy Spirit man is able to live in love. God gives love that is greater than mere human love. In love one can do deeds that the world’s people wonder at. They are not able to understand why someone can love the way God’s child does. Jesus’ love was the greatest, because He came to give Himself for believers by dying on the cross. John 15:13.

Jesus came to give the Holy Spirit

As I have already mentioned, one of the most important tasks for Jesus was to make it possible for the believer to receive the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised that He would send the Holy Spirit when He died and rose from the dead. John 16:7. Without that there would be no congregation born, and no more divine miracles would have happened. When He sent the Holy Spirit the congregation began to grow and miracles and signs began to happen.

In the Holy Spirit there are gifts of grace that believers can use and must use. 1 Cor. 12:8,9,10. With the gifts of grace believers serve the congregation and God. They worked then at the beginning and they still work to this very day. People are healed, prophesying happens and people speak in new tongues.

Be obedient and listen to Jesus

When you have received all these things, then you must be obedient to Jesus for the rest of your life. Jesus has promised to speak directly to all believers, John 10:27. Based on my own experience this means that Jesus speaks directly to thoughts in such a way that you can distinguish that it is Jesus’ voice. So it is not merely knowledge obtained from the Bible but direct speech from God. It is not a physical voice, but a voice that merges into thoughts as an external thought.

Based on my own experience, hearing God’s voice does not necessarily happen in a moment, although it can happen. I myself thought I was hearing God’s voice when it was not God’s voice but Satan or my own thoughts or the flesh. You do get used to it. If you have, for example, demons in you, they can imitate God’s voice. Demons must first be cast out. Matthew 10:8.

Why did Jesus have to die?

Perhaps you wonder why Jesus had to die on the cross. Couldn’t God just forgive without that? No. Because Satan and death had to be defeated. Jesus defeated both on the cross. 1 John 3:8, Hebrews 2:14. God is Holy and He wants people to also be holy. Satan’s children are not holy. God makes everything perfect in heaven as well as in the new heaven and earth. Revelation 21:1.

Is everything foreseen?

God has the ability to see into the future as well. He sees the beginning and the end. He therefore has foreseen all those who will be saved and what will happen in the future. This is called prophesying. Prophesying will eventually cease when the new heaven and new earth come. 1 Corinthians 13:8.

Will the whole world be saved?

No. Not all will be saved. Satan’s angels and Satan’s children will not be saved. Only born-again God’s children will be saved. But Satan’s children love sin and death. All of Satan’s children want to die. Proverbs 8:36, John 8:44. So no Satan’s child would, from their heart, even want to live together with God. That is why a separation happens. But what is death? There are two deaths. Physical death and then the second death, Revelation 2:11.

Summary

Jesus had several tasks why He came to the world. He brought God’s love, came to save sinners and brought the Holy Spirit. He atoned for sins and defeated death and Satan.

Jesus did His work sinlessly without mistakes. He lived a perfect life. This is completely supernatural and it succeeded only for the Son of God. No one else could ever have done that. That is why Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Revelation 19:16.

If you are not yet in faith, then repent, be baptized and believe in Jesus and be obedient to Him to the end.

Thank you for reading all the way to the end! Hopefully this has shown you why Jesus was sent to the world.
