⚡ Quick Answer
Yes! Jesus healed people while He was on earth about 2000 years ago, and He is still doing it today (✚Heb. 13:8). Often people are healed through the hands of a believer, but Jesus can also heal directly, without a human intermediary, through prayer.
My Own Experience
I have been a believer for maybe about 15 years, and I have seen a great many healings of people. However, I was not sure whether I myself could be healed. In the beginning I had no illnesses, but then one came. Ulcerative colitis, that is, a colon inflammation. There is no medical cure for it — it is a chronic disease. I suffered from it for several years, and it was a very unpleasant disease. Poor condition and bloody diarrhea, so I lost a lot of blood. I was then often in the hospital, and the medication cost 1000€ a month (for which I of course received support from society, and it cost me 600€/Year.
First pills were tried, which did not help at all, and then biological medication. The first one helped, and then I became immune to it. The second one helped for a while, and again immunity. Then I tried, with faith the size of a mustard seed (✚Matt. 17:20), contacting Healingrooms. A sister boldly DECLARED me healed. I was not sure whether I had been healed, but when there were no symptoms for a couple of weeks, I believed that I had been healed. Now I have been healthy for several months, and the ailment has not come back. So Jesus heals today too! My faith was nearly shipwrecked, but it strengthened my faith enormously. Thanks be to Jesus for that!
How Much Did Jesus Heal While He Was in the World?
Jesus healed people everywhere when He was in the world. The Bible says in one place that He healed ALL. Not just many, but all (✚Matt. 8:16). No one has as great a power to heal as Jesus. Although Jesus is God and man. He is not merely a supernatural human being but God! This also comes through clearly already in the Old Testament prophecy (✚Isa. 9:6). This is a Bible passage that strongly proves the Deity of Jesus.
Jesus’s nature is thus to heal. Jesus wants to heal, but because of people’s unbelief not everyone is healed. So Jesus expects faith the size of a mustard seed. Even a little faith, as in my case, and He can heal. The prayer person’s faith also affects it. If the person praying has faith, then through his faith people can become healed, if he sees in faith that the person to be healed has faith to be healed.
The Bible does not state exactly how much Jesus healed, but truly a great deal. One could imagine that the whole world was in turmoil at that stage. Who else can heal like that except God Himself?
Why Is Healing Important?
Healing is an amazing thing! People have received their hearing and their sight even today, and even the dead have been raised (cf. ✚Matt. 10:8). Healing is a gift (✚1 Cor. 12:9). It is very important, because people’s faith grows stronger (as mine did), and one can be healed from illnesses for which there is no cure. It is wonderful to know that there is a healer if some illness comes. It brings immense joy. Someone may have suffered for many years from some illness, with medications not helping, and suddenly can be completely healthy! A person does not even need to be a believer in order to be healed, if he only believes.
It is also a sign that the Holy Spirit is in a person, if he is able to heal. It is a gift of grace that God gives (✚1 Cor. 12:28), and if one has it, it is worth using actively. Without the gift of grace one cannot heal very much, nor can such great miracles happen, but if one receives that gift and has faith, then the blind can receive their sight, the deaf their hearing, and the lame can walk (✚Matt. 11:5).
How Do You Know That It Is God Specifically Who Heals?
There is also healing that does not come from God. If someone now prays or heals in the name of Jesus and he has received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, then one can be almost certain that it comes from God. This is also seen from the fruit of the one who prays. If he bears good fruit, then one can trust that God healed (✚Matt. 7:16–20). Another matter is that if the healing does not last, then it does not come from God. God certainly heals completely, in such a way that the illness does not come back again. So make sure that the person has received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, that he is a sheep of Jesus (✚John 10:27), and that he bears good fruit. Then you can ask for prayer.
Why Doesn’t Everyone Get Healed?
There is one reason for this, and it is unbelief (cf. ✚Matt. 13:58). If there is no faith in the one praying or the one being prayed for, then God does not necessarily heal. It requires at least that mustard-seed amount of faith. I have often seen people who declare someone healed without faith, and in my opinion that is wrong. It gives an outright false picture and disappointment to the person.
If you do not have faith, then do not declare someone healed! Of course in the beginning, when you have not yet done it, you can try whether the prayer works, but if it does not work then do not declare it. God always wants to heal — that is not the question. The question is always about unbelief, either in the one praying or in the one being healed.
How Do You Receive the Gift of Grace for Healing?
You can receive healing in such a way that some believer, in faith, lays a hand on the head and prays, or you can receive it directly from God. In the Bible Paul said that someone received the gift of grace through the laying on of hands (✚2 Tim. 1:6). What matters is that the one praying is a sheep of Jesus, and that both the one praying and the one being prayed for have faith. The gift of grace can then be fanned into flame through use. In practice, if you have received the gift, it is worth starting small. For example, you can pray for someone’s pain and see whether it leaves. Then something bigger, such as whether depression or a mood disorder leaves. Then you can take on bigger things such as healing cancer, and finally even healing the deaf or the blind.
Can You Heal Anyone at All?
If you have faith, then yes, you can heal anyone at all. The person does not need to be a believer. Pray that you would also see the person’s faith. If you see faith in the person, then it is easier to pray. God can give supernatural sight, as is read in the Bible in the New Testament (✚Acts 14:8–10). So you can receive that sight, and if you now have the gift of grace for healing, then you should definitely pray for that sight.
What If You Pray and Declare Someone Healed and They Are Not Healed?
If someone is not healed even though you declared it in faith, then it is definitely worth continuing to pray (cf. ✚Luke 18:1). Send prayer requests and pray for as long as it takes until the person becomes healed. You can take a burden upon yourself from that. If the person does not get healed for a long time, you can apologize and say that there was not enough faith this time and that the person did not become healed. But if you have faith, then you can believe that the person will become healed. The most important thing is that you do not declare it if you do not believe it.
Why Is the Gift of Grace for Healing Especially Valuable?
The gift of grace for healing is especially valuable because it shows in practice. In the Bible the gift of grace for prophesying is considered “the best” (✚1 Cor. 14:1), but the gift of grace for healing is of equal worth. If you have that gift of grace, you should be overjoyed. It tells that God is using you, and it also tells that you are forgiven and saved. That is the most important gift of all: salvation.
Where Should You Turn If You Are Sick
I recommend Healingrooms. They specialize in healing. If you have even a little faith and you are sick, then I definitely recommend that you contact them! I can recommend them because I myself was healed. And you do not need to go there in person. I was healed when they prayed over the phone! So you can call or request a callback, wherever in the world you happen to be!
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Jesus still heal today? Yes. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (✚Heb. 13:8), and healings still happen today, both through prayer and through the laying on of hands.
Does the sick person need to have faith themselves in order to be healed? Not necessarily. The sick person does not need to be a believer, but faith — either in the one praying or in the one being healed — affects whether the healing takes place.
Why doesn’t everyone get healed, even when people are praying for them? The most common reason is unbelief, either in the one praying or in the one being prayed for (cf. ✚Matt. 13:58). God always wants to heal; the issue is a lack of faith, not God’s will.
How can I receive the gift of grace for healing? The gift of grace can be received through the laying on of hands by another believer, or directly from God (✚2 Tim. 1:6). It is worth exercising the gift by starting with small things, such as pains, and gradually moving on to bigger things.
Can a sick person turn to medicine while also praying for healing? The article does not take a direct stance on this, but the author’s own experience shows that medical treatment and faith for healing can go hand in hand, before the answer to prayer comes.
Summary
Jesus healed, and He heals today too. If you want the gift of grace for healing, then look for some sheep of Jesus who can pray for that gift, or pray directly to God. You can pray for anyone at all, whether they are a believer or not. You should not declare someone healed if you do not have faith. You can contact Healingrooms if you need healing, or invite believers to pray for you (cf. ✚James 5:14–15).
But the most important thing is that you are saved. You can read this article about how you could be saved, if you have not been saved yet!
